Thanks to substantial support from a Running to Stand Still alum, we are able to offer one full-tuition scholarship for our 2026 workshop.

Brendan Leonard’s Running to Stand Still workshop is an opportunity to build community, explore trails on foot, and practice the craft of writing in supportive, positive environment. To learn about our 2026 workshop offering, please check out the program page here.

We are overjoyed to be able to offer a full tuition waiver for one scholarship recipient in 2026, thanks to the generosity of a past workshop participant. This scholarship is open to everyone, and writers/ runners from historically under-recognized communities are strongly encouraged to apply. Curious people of all backgrounds and all skill levels are invited to apply. You do NOT need to be an established or successful writer to apply!

With this scholarship, we aim to support someone who would not otherwise have the opportunity to participate in a workshop like this. In your application, please craft a statement in which you share your creative aspirations/ projects/ ideas/ dreams. Tell us why this opportunity is important to you, at this time in your life, and how it will serve you (professionally, creatively, personally, etc.).

The Running to Stand Still Scholarship is open to any qualified applicant, from anywhere and any background. There is no limit to the number of candidates that can apply from one institution, organization, or community. We can accept applications in written, audio, or video formats. Our goal with this scholarship is to support someone who would not otherwise have the chance to participate in a six-day writing workshop. We want to support your learning and your creative aspirations, as well as your desire to build creative community. Please tell us about your ideas, projects, or writing dreams.
