Description
What does it mean to live and write elementally?
How do we write about such common elements that compose our world, that compose our stories?
What does it mean to compost these shared materials into alchemical spell-castings of narrative?
WRITING ELEMENTALLY is designed to put every participant in intimate contact with his / her / their bioregion, a particular evolutionary signature wherever they’re from, but simultaneously engaging in a collective creative caucus about common elements shared by all. We are all in an inescapable immersive dance with the elements that compose this world, and ourselves—what’s it mean, therefore, to live an elemental life? How might we conspire to be in right relationship with the elements, ourselves, the world?
Freeflow has partnered with the Center for Humans & Nature to offer an online writing series this fall that focuses on the elements: earth, air, water, and fire. Using CHN’s newest offering, Elementals, as an anchoring text, this cohort will write into the elements, activating humus underfoot, animating air, lighting a fire under our stories.
Each session will last two hours, every Wednesday evening between February 12 and March 5, 2025, and will include a generative writing exercise, discussions about each element and the corresponding book, and a discussion with a guest writer or editor.
WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT:
- Creative and perceptual tools for engaging in elemental acuity in your bioregion
- Networking with like-minded creatives and leaders in the field of ecological storytelling
- Ideas for new work to carry you through the late winter months
Participants are invited to purchase the Elementals box set at a 35% discount after registering.
